"Abstraction through the medium of paint, line, form, and colour is to put in order the chaos of everyday memories, imagination, and observations."

I am working with the emotional response to colour and shape, and their ability to trigger memory. It leads me to question…

How is it that we are affected by a simple line or shape or colour, or mesmerized by the illusion of depth created by combining layer upon layer of paint and materials?

What is it about the playful interaction that takes place between multiple colours that creates a dialogue on the canvas?

What conscious or unconscious memory from each person’s life experiences will spark a unique interpretation and connection with that canvas?

I am a colourist who works in abstract and prairie landscape. But I paint because it is a passion, a curiosity, and a challenge to see what will come from putting paint to canvas.

Music can shape the mood of my work. Painting, like music, is not static--the energy of the work can change as rapidly as the rhythm of the music. Is it Beethoven or Tom Petty?

My work is also influenced by artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Hans Hofmann, Helen Frankenthaler, Greg Hardy, and by a multitude of chance meetings in my environment.
